Mosque

A stunning example of ancient Islamic architecture that continues to be a center of spiritual and intellectual learning.

ABOUT

Shah-I-Hamadan Mosque holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Srinagar as it is considered to be the first mosque built in the city by a Muslim ruler, Sikander Butshikan. The shrine was constructed in the memory of preacher Mir Syed Ali Hamdani and features stunning architecture that is rarely seen in the world, with Papier-mâché reliefs and no usage of nails in its construction. Honouring the legacy of the preacher Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, the mosque transcends beyond a place of worshipping to a place of learning and has been an important center of Islamic learning and spirituality. Many scholars and students come to the mosque to study Islamic theology and philosophy. Its presence is a reminder of the deep cultural roots of Srinagar and one of the best places to visit here.
