Bir Bhunerheri Wildlife Sanctuary lies just 15 kilometres from Patiala on Devigarh Road and boasts 662 hectares, making for an unforgettable adventure for nature enthusiasts and wildlife fans. Established as a protected area in 1972, this sanctuary now provides habitat to over 200 different animal species - so when visiting, prepare yourself to witness nature at its best while witnessing breathtaking creatures up close!

A former hunting reserve

Bir Bhuneheri lies at the core of Patiala's history, serving as a former hunting reserve for Patiala rulers. Now open to visitors as a tourist attraction, its diverse wildlife and lush flora provide an attractive mix for exploration.

As you stroll the sanctuary, keep an eye out for the colourful array of wildlife that calls Bir Bhunerheri home - from Blackbuck, Sambar, Blue bull, Hog deer, Porcupine, Jackal, Rhesus monkey and Jungle cats roaming freely to over 100 species of birds that grace its skies - from colourful Parakeets and Spotted Owlets to Charming Quails and Peaceful Pigeons!

Bir Bhunerheri offers more than its fair share of attractions for visitors; its botanic diversity boasts over 100 species of trees, such as Kikar, Shisham and Jamun Not to mention, the sanctuary remains mostly unguarded, with only 240 ha enclosed by chain-link fences and sturdy cement pillars encasing it all!
