Conservancy efforts continue
Kulik Bird Sanctuary's history begins in the early 1970s as part of a state social forestry program and begins with its dedication to conservation and afforestation, featuring dry deciduous trees such as kadam and eucalyptus which provide shelter for migratory marvels such as Asian openbill stork. Conceived as a "U"-shaped sanctuary with artificial canals connected to Kulik River for maximum effectiveness.
As part of their harmonious integration, during monsoon season river water flows freely into the sanctuary providing food sources to both resident and migratory birds alike. To protect nesting opportunities without disturbing nesting birds, the Raiganj social forestry division thoughtfully created the Bhattadighi picnic spot; striking an equilibrium that secures this haven of birds without disturbing their tranquil nesting habits.
