Take a road trip to serenity

Just an hour from the hustle bustle of Coimbatore is a serene natural park. The Nilgiri Biosphere Natural Park is at Anaikatti -- 33 km from Coimbatore – on the foothills of the Nilgiri Hills. It was established by the Coimbatore Zoological Park Society (CZPS) in 1986 to sensitise people about nature and protecting the environment.

The park is home to 430 species of plants (some of them endangered), several species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 22 species of amphibians, 18 species of mammals, and 300 plus iInvertebrates, including butterflies. The park organises nature walks where both children and adults can directly experience nature. There is also a 250-seater amphitheatre where informative nature documentaries are shown.

There is also a rockery, fish and frog ponds, and an aquarium. For the tired city dwellers of Coimbatore, this provides a refreshing change.
