A haven for wildlife
Rajaji National Park is a haven for wildlife, home to over 50 mammal species such as Asiatic Elephants and Tigers that roam freely throughout its landscapes. Additionally, over 300 bird species make their home here, with about 90 migrating visitors regularly stopping by Bhimgora, Virbhadra Barrage, and Ganges' Wetlands for rest or recreation.
Stories of wonder and transformation
Behind every feat lies a narrative. Rajaji National Park's creation was no different: legend tells that when Governor-General Rajaji was invited for a hunt in this region, its beautiful biodiversity moved him so deeply that instead of hunting it off he proposed creating a wildlife sanctuary as a tribute to its inherent charm and allure.
Within the park's embrace lies another remarkable tale--how collaboration and concerted efforts overcame a risky railway track which once ran through its sanctuary and put wildlife lives at risk.
