Discover the secret behind its name

Nagzira National Park offers a relaxing retreat with its refreshing air, breathtaking landscapes, diverse plant and animal life, and trekking trails that promise to relieve stress. Once under the reign of Gond kings, this captivating wildlife sanctuary now stands as an inviting wildlife destination that draws wildlife enthusiasts alike. This park takes its name from two nearby temples - Nag Temple in Pongezara Nagzira as well as Mahadeo Temple; "Zira" in Marathi signifies continuous water source emerging from Pongezara; forested areas are enclosed by hilly slopes that form Gaikhuri Hills of Satpura Range.

A biodiverse sanctuary

Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary offers a biodiverse sanctuary with many endangered plant and animal species, including 34 mammal, 166 bird, 4 amphibian and 36 reptile species. Tigers, Palm Civets, Small Indian Civets, Jungle Cats, Panthers, Sloth Bears, Gaurs, Common Giant Flying Squirrels, Mouse Deer, Pangolins, Four-Horned Antelopes and Ratels can be seen within this sanctuary. The sanctuary boasts a diverse avifauna, including bar-headed geese and peafowl. Reptiles and amphibians found within include Indian Rock Pythons, Indian Cobras, Dhamans, Checkered Keelbacks, Russell's Vipers, Common Monitors, Bullfrogs Tree Frogs Six Toed Frogs. Flora in the sanctuary ranges from dense mixed forests through teak forests bamboo groves grasslands as well as visitors can even enjoy elephant rides within.
