  1. The Dalai Lama himself played an important part in setting up the Sed-Gyued Monastery in Siliguri. It was built between 2000 and 2001.

  2. Sed-Gyued Dorjee Chang T.N. Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche first approached the Dalai Lama for advice on building the monastery. The opening ceremony was held in November 2001 by the Dalai Lama.

The Sed-Gyued Monastery in Siliguri is open to visitors every day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Visitors are expected to adhere to the rules and traditions of the monastery, and maintain a respectful and quiet demeanour while in the monastery.



Warm and humid in the summers, while it is cool and pleasant in the winters. Summer months (April to June) are hot and humid with temperature ranging from 25 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius. Winters (November to February) are quite mild with temperatures ranging from 8 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius. The monsoon season (July to September) brings heavy rains and thunderstorms.
