Located in the quaint village of Tashi Jong, the Tashi Jong Monastery is a vibrant landmark surrounded by picturesque snow-capped mountains and lush landscape. It is a centre of the Drugpa Kagyu tradition of Buddhism and the complex comprises a temple, the Yamantak Retreat Centre that remains closed to the public and the stupa of Khamtrul Rinpoche, a lineage of Buddhism. The building has been designed by him and is a gorgeous structure adorned with intricate wood carvings and beautiful paintings. It also houses several manifestations of Lord Buddha, the most popular being Buddha Shakyamuni, a traditional representation of the ancient Buddha. The monastery is also a crafts emporium from where tourists can shop for Tibetan handicrafts. Tashi Jong in Tibetan stands for auspicious valley.
