It is one of the most famous pilgrimage spots in India and has been recognised as one of the 11 heritage sites that were identified by HUDA (Heritage Conservation Committee). It lies at a distance of about 10 km from Secunderabad and was built in the memory of Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad. Since it is located on a hillock, one has to climb 400 steps to reach it. It is believed that the entrance of the dargah has a palm impression of Hazrat Ali. Owing to this belief, the mosque is a major pilgrimage site. One can also get panoramic views of the surroundings from the mosque. The gates of the mosque are open four days in a month for non-Muslims.
