Obbattu

One of the most popular street foods of the city, obbattu is a dish made from rice and served hot with a topping of desi ghee (clarified butter). The delicious dish is Karnataka's version of Maharashtra's famous Puran Poli. In Karnataka, obbattu is not only offered to the God, it is also a must-serve sweet in weddings and religious occasions like Sathya Narayana pooja. It is usually made with two different kinds of stuffings. The one made with lentils is called bele obbattu and the one made with coconut is called kayi holige.

Bisi Bele Baath

A traditional recipe made with rice, lentils and mixed vegetables, bisi-bele-baath makes for a wholesome meal. It is a popular dish in Karnataka. Almost all tiffin centres and restaurants in Bengaluru offer this scrumptious dish, which is basically pulses and rice cooked together with tamarind and other spices including bisi-bele-baath spice powder. The dish is also known as bisi bele huli anna.
