The first scientific research laboratory of yoga, the Kaivalyadhama Shreeman Madhava Yoga Mandira Samiti in Lonavala was established by Swami Kuvalayananda back in 1924. Here, various yogic postures, as well as the therapy provided by yoga, are researched and analyzed. The samiti also teaches the Ashtanga yoga of yogic seer Patanjali.

The institute aims at educating the youth about the many benefits of yoga in its purest form. Courses such as naturopathy, Ayurveda and yoga for weight management are also offered at this prestigious school. It is recognised by the Central and Maharashtra State governments as a research institute, and has been receiving grants for its philosophical, scientific and literary research. For its advancement in the science of yoga, the K.S.M.Y.M. Samiti has been praised by scholars in India and abroad.
