Bishnupur boasts some prominent temples that invite devotees both for their spiritual significance and architectural styles. Most of the noted temples of Bishnupur were built between the 17th and 18th centuries and are known for their distinguished architecture. Start with the Rasmancha Temple, which was built in 1600 AD by king Bir Hambir (1525-1620 CE) to host the annual Ras festival. The temple is known for its pyramidal sanctum, low-arched corridors and a garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum). Head to the southern group of temples that is located quite close to the Rasmancha Temple. These include the Shyamrai Temple, Madan Mohan Temple and the Jor Bangla Temple. The Radha Shyam Temple is among the few temples where a deity is worshipped regularly. Known for its unique tantrik style of Bangladeshi temple architecture, the Chinnamasta Temple can be visited while you are shopping near the Dalmadal cannon, a historical treasure.
