Perched on the Ajinkyatara Mountain, at an altitude of 3,300 ft, the eponymous fort offers picturesque views of the entire city of Satara. Tourists can best explore the fort by hiking and camping. Temples of Devi Mangalai, Lord Shankara and Lord Hanuman are housed within the fort, where visitors can pay their respects. Tourists can see the Nandgiri and Chandan-Vandan forts on its eastern side, while the western side offers beautiful views of Jarandeshwar and Yawateshwar hills. The fort has emerged as a favorite spot for cyclists and adventure lovers who come here for hiking, trekking and mountaineering. In its heydays, the fort was the sentinel of the Southern Maharashtra region and occupied a key location in keeping watch over the city.
