Named after Barua Sagar Tal, a lake created around 260 years ago by Orchha’s Raja Udit Singh, Barua Sagar is located on the road that leads to Khajuraho. Around 20 km from Jhansi, is a fort that commands a beautiful view of the picturesque lake and the surrounding landscape. It was built by Raja Udit Singh. Barua Sagar is the spot where the battle between Peshwa troops and Bundelas was fought in 1744. This is also the place where Joti Bhau, the elder brother of Maharaja Madhuji Scindia was killed. The architecture of the embankment structure is unique and exemplary. There are ruins of two old temples made from granite near the lake. These were built by the Chandela rulers (9th to 13th centuries).
