Located around 30 km from Jhansi, the ancient town of Chirgaon is best known as the birthplace of renowned Hindi poet, Maithili Sharan Gupt. It is located on the bank of Betwa river. A major attraction  is the samadhi of the poet. The town has been home to two other literary laureates Siyaram Sharan Gupta, the younger brother of Maithili Sharan Gupt and Urdu poet, Munshi Ajmeri. Another interesting feature is a compound that houses both a temple and a mosque. The town has a fort and three gates located at the centre. Several ponds dot Chirgaon and people can also visit an ancient temple called Shiv-Sai temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is located at Collector Ganj.
