Spread over an area of 654 sq km, the lush green area of the Hingolgarh Nature Education Sanctuary stands amidst the arid zones of Saurashtra. It has abundant growth of tall grass amidst trees and shrubs and becomes a hideout for reptiles and other animals such as the Indian porcupine, foxes, flying foxes , chinkara, etc. One can witness more than 230 kinds of birds and 19 species of snakes inside the premises. The ideal time to visit the place is from the onset of monsoon till the beginning of winters. The sanctuary provides an opportunity to study physical features such as soil characteristics, hill slopes, water flow etc.

It was declared as a sanctuary in the year 1980, recognised as an educational centre in 1984 and is administered by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER).
