Situated on the Mutha river, this dam is around 20 km from Pune and is among the main sources of water for the city. It is 1.6 km long, and has 11 radial sluice gates, accompanied by six irrigation outlets, flowing out into two canals. Providing spectacular views of the surroundings, the dam is a popular tourist spot, which is lined with food stalls selling an assortment of delicacies. The Sinhagad Fort, a few kilometres away, is a major attraction. The Panshet and Varasgaon dams, which are primarily used for irrigation purposes, are located close by. Tourists can also head to Peacock bay and Neelkanteshwar hill. The National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS) are located nearby.
