The seemingly sleepy town of Gwaldam is located in Chamoli district, the second-largest in Uttarakhand. The road to Gwaldam is lined with thick pine forests in the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas, and makes for a refreshing drive and offers a breathtaking view. The beauty of Gwaldam is testament to the natural charm of the Garhwal region as Gwaldam lies on the border of Garhwal and Kumaon. It offers a number of spots for scenic repose. The verdant pine forests dotted with innumerable tiny lakes and apple orchards offer tourists many fairytale-like avenues. Situated at an altitude of 1,699 m, it offers fascinating views of famous peaks such as Nanda Devi (7,817 m), Trishul (7,120 m) and Nanda Ghuti (6,309 m) from various vantage points. The view of River Pindari flowing through the valley is a beautiful panorama that in itself is enough to merit a visit to this place. A unique experience that a traveller to Gwaldam can enjoy is a trek through apple orchards that seem to stretch into infinity. This is the beginning of a number of established treks routes in the Himalayas, like the one to Roop Kund. It is merely 22 km from Baijnath and makes for an excellent day trip.
