Located amidst the verdant hills of Manipur's Yairipok area, Kaina Temple is perched atop a hill at an elevation of 914 m. The temple complex houses a large hall in the middle surrounded by smaller temples dedicated to different Hindu deities. Legend has it that an idol of Shree Shree Govindajee was created using a jackfruit tree from Kaina. This was, incidentally, also there in a dream that King Bhagyachandra Maharaj (1763-98AD) saw. This is the reason why the Vaishnavites consider Kaina a holy place. Kaina is also famed for the traditional dance form of Ras Gharba, which is performed during important festivals and ceremonies. A visit to the temple provides a great opportunity to get an insight into the culture, traditions and beliefs of the locals. The picturesque beauty of the surroundings and the temple's peaceful environment makes it a place worth visiting during a trip to Imphal, located at a distance of 29 km from here.
