A popular stopover on the tourist circuit, Upuli Buruj is a noted tower that can be dated back to the 16th century. From here, tourists can get sweeping and stunning views of the cityscape. See various grand monuments arranged like neat ant hills as you get a bird's eye view of the entire area. This 80-ft-high spherical tower was built by Hyder Khan, an important commander of the Adil Shahi (a Shia Muslim dynasty) army, with an aim to strengthen Bijapur's security. To reach the top of Upuli Buruj, one needs to climb steep stone steps winding around the tower. The top of the tower houses two ancient canons, which were once a part of Bijapur's defence system. Located near the western wall of the city, the tower stands as an important landmark and is a must-visit spot.
