Dedicated to the great saint, Matsyendranath, of the Natha sect of Shaivism, Pir Matsyendranath is located near Gadkalika Temple and Bhartrihari Caves on the banks of River Kshipra. A popular monument on the tourist circuit, it invites visitors for its antiques that date back to the 6th and 7th centuries BC. The saint is believed to be the master of Guru Gorakshnath, who is believed to have introduced the popular Hath Yoga. Matsyendranath was also said to be the leader of the Nath cult and one of the navnath (a group of nine saints). It is believed that the saint took samadhi at this spot and thus his tomb has been built here. Tourists from across religions visit this memorial and pay their respects to the saint.
