Lying at the corner of one of the main meadows in Gulmarg, the Maharani Temple looks striking. It is said to be the royal temple of Dogra dynasty, who ruled the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, it lies on a small hillock and can be seen from all corners of the town.

Also called the Rani Temple or Mohineshwar Shivalaya, it was built by Mohini Bai Sisodhia, the wife of Maharaja Hari Singh, in 1915, who used to ardently worship at the temple. The structure boasts a Hindu style of architecture and the premises have been well-maintained. The temple remains open every day from 6 am to 9 pm. Visitors can attend the arti (a holy fire ritual) performed here twice every day.
