The name Reechgarh, locals believe, comes from the caves that were once populated by a large number of reech (sloth bears). Reechgarh is home to a number of rocky cliffs that have cave-like formations. A particular attraction is an opening in the face of a rock, about 400 m wide, that allows visitors to climb over large rocks and reach the opposite side of the hill where a magnificent view awaits those who make this somewhat arduous journey. A cool wind blows constantly through the tunnel-like section, offering a welcome respite from the heat. Some of the rocks are difficult to climb over and provide a thrilling challenge to adventure enthusiasts. Located near Dhoopgarh, this stunning spot can be reached from Bhopal by road in around five-and-a-half hours. It is located at a distance of abut 197 km from the city.
