Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a notable Maratha warrior and ruler. The festivities are mostly centred around the state of Maharashtra, where several processions are taken out in the honour of the ruler. People dress up as him and Maratha soldiers and gather together to reminisce the great works of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Plays and dramas are organised on a grand scale where his valour in battles and wit in politics are displayed. The states of Goa and Karnataka also observe this day with great fervour.
