Situated to the south of Aizawl at the Aizawl-Thenzawl -Lunglei road, Hmuifang is a popular destination for tourists where verdant grassy glades and virgin forests preserved since the days of the Mizo Chiefs surrounds the entire region. The Tourist Resort was built on the former land of the erstwhile Mizo chief and offers comfortable accommodation with six double rooms and a cafeteria. Visitors get a glimpse of the scenic rolling hills covered in a sea of clouds en route the destination with several seasonal waterfalls along the roadside during the monsoon season. The quaint village of Hmuifang with all its simplicity and traditional way of life perched on top of the hills depicts the rural life of the Mizos. It is an ideal place for a quick getaway from the city life with plenty of nature-based activities on offer.

After waking up to a fresh early sunrise, have a cup of tea/coffee and head to Falkawn village. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the mist-covered hills along the way. Falkawn is a small village situated 18 km south of Aizawl. Depicting the lifestyle and culture of a typical Mizo village, this site is frequently visited by tourists. The Art and Culture Department, Government of Mizoram has set up a Cultural Centre (Zokhua) at Falkawn in 1992. The centre is a mini live-museum where Zawlbuk (Dormitory), Lal In (Chief’s House), Pum (Blacksmiths) and other Mizo typical houses are erected. There are freedom fighter memorial stones and Taitesena commemoration stone.

  The traditional Mizo societies had no social discrimination. A gregarious and close-knit community, they evolved some principles of self-help and co-operation. The Mizos established a unique code of ethics called Tlawmngaihna, which stands basically for selfless service for others. It is a compelling moral force that requires a man to be hospitable, kind, unselfish, courageous and helpful to others.

Next stop is at Muallungthu village, where the Tropic of Cancer passes right through the highway near the village. One can take pictures for a memorable preserve to take back home.

Reach Tourist Resort at Hmuifang and have breakfast at the resort. Take a stroll around the virgin forest of Hmuifang and the grassy glades atop the peak, which is an ideal destination for a family picnic and outdoor camping. Spend time at LAD Park, just adjacent to the resort, to enjoy nature amongst the lush green forest and experience the tree houses and hanging bridges. The Tourism Department, under the ministry’s Swadesh Darshan scheme, has constructed viewing tower, aerial forest pathway, nature trail etc., specifically for the adventure-minded tourist to enjoy.

Stop 4

Head towards Hmuifang village by foot which is about 15 minutes walk from the resort. It is a quaint and charming village located on the hillock with a beautiful view on either side of the hills. The rural life of the Mizos can be experienced here. Fresh local produces can be brought at the roadside markets. The cliff on the side of the villages offers a panoramic view of the blue horizon. One can walk along the hilltop along with the patches of grass and relax to the sound of the mountain breeze. The villages of Chamring and Sumsuih are also situated nearby if one wishes to walk among the local villagers. Here, one can experience how the fabric of social life in the Mizo society has undergone tremendous changes over years. But a majority of the rural populace is still dependent on the agriculture livelihood that has passed from generations.

Head towards Sialsuk village to Sialsuk Tlang (peak), which is a must-visit destination for every tourist, as it is often referred to by the locals as the most enjoyable peak in the area. Enjoy the 360° view of the surrounding hills and the grassy meadows under the clear blue sky.

Enjoy a cup of evening tea at Sialsuk village. One may take a brief walk through the village and visit a Mizo family for an interaction with a local to have a glimpse of their household and way of life.

 Head back to Aizawl city and en route enjoy the beautiful vistas of sunset.
