Nagpur District forms the north-eastern part of the present state of Maharashtra. Along with minerals, fossils of flora and fauna, veins of semi-precious stones, agate, and rock crystal have been reported from this area in large numbers. Nagpur is situated in the area of Vidarbha Janapada, which, in turn, was part of the great forest traditionally known as the Dandakaranya in the Ramayana and other classical Sanskrit sources. Kamthi, a majestic Buddhist stupa, the Dragon palace, Mansar, Khindasi water reservoir, Nagardhan fort Totaladoh dam, National Parks and Tiger reserves, like Pench National Park, Tadoba –Andhari, Navegaon, Melghat, Bor etc..., Ramtek Temple are the major attractions of Nagpur city.
