Day 1 Stop 2 - Dhuandhar Falls

Road trip map

Further upstream is the Dhuandhar waterfall. Here, the Narmada leaves its wide bed and falls, from a height of 30 ft (9 m) in a spectacular cascade. So powerful is the plunge that water droplets rise in a concentrated mass, creating an illusion of vapours or smoke, thus giving the falls the name 'Dhuandhar' or smoky.

Day 1 Stop 4 - Madan Mahal Fort

Road trip map

Tradition attributes the fort to Gond ruler Madan shah who supposedly built it in 1116 AD. Some scholars surmise that the fort dates back to Rani Durgavati's reign. However, the stone slab outside the fort, among other things claims that it was built by the Gond ruler Hriday Shah when he shifted his capital to Ramnagar, Mandla (16th century). Halfway up the steps to Madan Mahal Fort is a Shiva Temple, Sidh Pancheshwar Bholenath.
