Situated at a height of over 2,024 m, Gun Hill is one of the highest peaks of Mussoorie that gives a picturesque view of the Doon Valley and the mesmerising snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. The hill derives its unusual name from a legend, which says that during the British period, the locals brought a cannon to the top of the hill to fire at the British and thus the hill was named Gun Hill. Another story associated with the place says that the British brought a canon on the hill in 1857. It fired a shot every day at noon to help the locals to know the time. Gun Hill can easily be accessed by a cable car taken from Mall Road, which is some 400 ft above the road and takes less than five minutes to reach via the ropeway.
