Enjoy a cup of tea at the highest plantation in the world, 38 km away from Munnar. The hill top is accessible only by jeep. One can have a breathtaking view of the Munnar Valley from here. At about 7,900 ft above sea level, you can even glimpse the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. For a trekker, a walk through these hills is a must-do.
You can avail a guided tour of the plantation and the tea factory and get an insight into the ways of production. Tea is processed in a two-storeyed wooden building with a technique of processing that has been in use for decades. This traditional process is quite removed from the common CTC (crush-tear-curl) method used in modern times, and involves seven steps - withering, rolling, sieving, fermenting, drying, fibre extraction, and grading. There is also a shop where you can buy a variety of flavours like the Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) and the Flowery Orange Pekoe (FOP).
