An unspoilt expanse of lush greenery, dotted with clusters of traditional villages lying amidst pine meadows, Lunglei, the second-largest city of Mizoram is a nature lover's delight. Its quaint charms are best explored by trekking through the various winding trails that let one soak in the surrounding natural beauty. For birdwatchers, the scenic charms of Lunglei are nothing less than a paradise as its serene locales invite a host of birds. You can also spot wildlife aplenty. The name 'Lunglei' literally means a bridge of rock. Locals say the name is inspired by a rock that resembles a bridge that was once found in a riverine near Nghasih, a tributary of River Tlawng. Near Mualcheng, around 50 km from Lunglei, mystery surrounds an engraved image of Lord Buddha that was unearthed in the area.
