Lying to the north of Hyderabad, at a distance of 150 km from Bidar, Nizamabad is a treasure trove of history. The prime attractions are the beautiful Alisagar and Nizamsagar lakes that add to the natural opulence of the urban cityscape. The Alisagar lake, built in 1931 by the Nizam of Hyderabad, is now the Alisagar reservoir. This was developed in 1985 as a safe haven for several species of deer. This makes it a popular day destination as one can combine a day next to the water with deer spotting.

Tourists can also visit the 18th-century Domakonda Fort that is a spectacular sight. A two-storeyed structure with an elevated compound of rocks that make up the fort wall, the fort can be entered through a wooden door. The fort houses a splendid palace within the premises that boasts a water garden pond.
