The Karnataka Government Museum in Bengaluru is home to a gorgeous red-coloured British-era building, which serves as the Venkatappa Art Gallery. A haven for art lovers, the gallery is spread across two floors and houses more than 600 paintings, including those of eminent artists including MF Husain and Yusuf Arakkal.

The artworks displayed at the gallery belong from the time period between 2000 BC till the medieval period. The gallery has been named after the great painter Venkatappa and the ground floor has been used to display his artworks. The gallery is also famous for showcasing some rare stone sculptures dating back to the 12th century AD. These include sculptures from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. A separate section of the gallery is devoted to excavations while there is also an armoury gallery that displays medieval era weapons like swords, daggers, spears and bullets. The gallery is conveniently located close to the bustling MG Road, one of the city's busiest areas.
