Thotlakonda is a Buddhist complex near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It is located atop a hill measuring 128 ft high. The site was discovered during an aerial survey being conducted by the Indian Navy. Several archaeological excavations were conducted at the site between 1988 to 1992. The unearthed objects, classified into religious, secular and civil categories, include over 10 votive stupas, 11 cisterns cut from rocks, several chaityas, 10 viharas, congregation halls and stone-paved pathways, apart from other structural remains and artifacts.
Built in the 3rd century BC during the reign of King Ashoka. It is the site of an ancient Buddhist settlement, known as Chintapalli.
At this site you'll find monolithic votive stupas, caves carved from rocks and ancient brick structures.
