A well-known Buddhist site, Bavikonda is located about 15 km away fromĀ Visakhapatnam. The site boasts chaityas (prayer halls) and viharas (monasteries). It is said the monasteries here functioned between the 3rd century BC and 3rd century AD. Remains of a Buddhist complex can also be found at the site. It consists of 26 structures. An urn was also recovered at the site, which contained a piece of bone along with ash and charcoal. It is considered to be the mortal remains of Lord Buddha.
Built in the 3rd century BC during the reign of King Ashoka. It is the site of an ancient Buddhist settlement, known as Chintapalli.
At this site you'll find monolithic votive stupas, caves carved from rocks and ancient brick structures.
