Bojjannakonda, believed to be a 2,000-year-old Buddhist heritage site, was unearthed in 1907. The site is also called Sankaram. Some of the notable sights at the site include monolithic votive stupas, caves carved from rocks and edifices of ancient brick structures. Archaeological excavations at the site yielded several objects of importance such as Satavahana coins dating back to the 1st century AD, a number of clay tablets depicting Lord Buddha and ancient pottery.
