ABOUT THE

Attraction

Located in Arunachal Pradesh, this picture-perfect monastery was founded by  Merag Lodroe Gyamtso (Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso) between 1680 and 1681 AD. The monastery, also known as Ganden Namgyal Lhatse, is believed to be the largest of its kind in India and the second largest in the world. One of the unmissable sights at this tranquil place is a huge assembly hall, called Dukhang, which is a stunning three-storey complex. Situated on the top of a hill in the Tawang district, the monastery offers stunning views of the valley. It also features sketches of several Bodhisattvas and saints. A colossal statue of Lord Buddha, in the northern part of the monastery, is another prime attraction.

At the monastery, one would also find a library, which houses ancient scriptures, along with 65 residential quarters.

It is located on the outskirts of the Tawang city.
