Commemorating Chinese Buddhist scholar Hiuen Tsang, the Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall was set up as a symbol of the friendship between India and China. Its building was initiated in 1957, as a collaborative project between the Indian and Chinese governments at the time. It houses the Memorial Museum, completed in 2006.
It is said Lord Buddha visited Champanagar in Bihar several times during his lifetime, preaching Kandaraka Sutta, the famous Sonadanda Sutta and made several other important discourses here.
