ABOUT THE

Attraction

Located in Uttar Pradesh, Kaushambi was one of the places Lord Buddha had visited during his travels and where he had given many sermons. It is renowned as a centre of higher learning for Buddhists and it is believed to have been among the most prosperous cities of those times. Excavations here have revealed ruins of an Ashokan Pillar and a grand monastery, besides a large number of sculptures and figurines, cast coins and terracotta objects.  The nearest major city is Allahabad, about 55 km away.
