Legend has it that Sheikh ul Aalam Sheikh Noor din Noorani, a revered saint of Kashmir, once prayed in this valley and was in search of water. As he searched the meadows, he used his stick to prick the ground, and to his surprise, milk gushed out. The saint instructed that the milk could only be used for drinking and not for ablution. Suddenly, the milk transformed into water, and the meadow was thereafter named Doodpathri. The water that flows through the valley to this day has a milky appearance from a distance and remains refreshingly cool throughout the year.
