Jaisamand Lake


Jaisamand Lake, 48 Km. from Udaipur, is renowned for being the second largest artificial lake in Asia. It covers an area of 36 square kilometres, stretching to a length of 14 kilometres and width of 9 kilometres. The dam constructed on this lake also houses a centrally located Shiva temple. The summer palace of the queen of Udaipur forms a perfect backdrop to the Lake. There are six, intricately carved marble cenotaphs on its embankment. Jaisamand Lake is close to the Jaisamand Sanctuary which serves as a habitat to various types of birds, panthers, leopards, deer, wild boars and crocodiles.
