Rajahmundry, also known as Rajamahendri, is known as the city of poets and art. It has earned the reputation as being a powerhouse of culture in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. Considered by historians as one of the oldest Indian cities, it is also credited with the birthplace of Telugu – the language of the people of the state. The city is home to many historic temples and well as scenic spots.
Rajahmundry was once the seat of the powerful Chalukyas. It is known for being immersed deeply into tradition, arts and culture. Considered the birthplace of the language Telugu, the city is considered the cultural backbone of the state. It was also one of the hotbeds in the Indian freedom movement.
Rajahmundry Airport is located at Madhurapudi, 18 kilometres north of Rajahmundry in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. During 1985–1994, it was used by Vayudoot.
