Mahant Ghasi Memorial Museum is amongst the 10 oldest museums in India preserving its archaeological heritage. This museum stretches over a vast land of 2 hectares. The museum has two floors and five galleries, with a beautiful and quaint library. The galleries display stunning collection of many traditional Kalachuri sculptures, ancient coins, carvings, inscriptions and also Buddhist bronzes, along with the many ornaments and clothes that were mostly used by the tribes of Chhattisgarh. Visit here between 9 am and 6 pm. The museum is closed every Monday.
Baandha, Phuli, Suta, Bali, Khunti, Patta, Choora, Ainthi are some of the decorative ornaments famous with the tribal women in Chhattisgarh. Karandhi is worn on the waist with saree, while Pounchhi is a ring for upper arm, and Bicchiya are the toe rings. Being the capital city, you can easily get these exquisite jewellery items from the local shops in Raipur.
