Pelling, a beautiful town in the West District of Sikkim, is becoming the second biggest tourist destination in Sikkim after Gangtok. The main attraction of the place is the breathtaking sight of the Khangchendzonga and the neighbouring peaks. The famous Pemayangtse monastery is less than a kilometre from here and is a major tourist spot. It also provides sites for mountain biking, rock climbing, village tours, meditation, educational studies and several other activities. Pelling, a beautiful petite town sited at a height of 6800 ft was initially covered with wild thick forest which served as home to many indigenous wild animals. This ridge situated between two old Buddhist monasteries (Pemayangtse and Sangacholing) developed into a full-fledged village named Pelling.
The nearest Airport from Pelling is Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri, roughly four hour drive from Pelling. Scheduled flights are available from cities such as New Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
The New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station is the closest railhead at a distance of 152 kilometres from Pelling. Trains from across the country connect the NJP station to major cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Taxis are readily available for hire outside the railway station.
