Channapatna is famous for its wooden toys and Lacquerware. The city, situated between Bengaluru and Mysuru, is world famous as the “TOYS CITY". In Kannada, Channapatna is also called as "Goombegala Ooru", meaning toys town in English. These toys are made of a specific wood, called as "Aale Mara or the ivory wood". The small town streets of Channapatana are lined with the colorful unique wooden toys. The toys are made mainly with wood and colored using vegetable dyes and are safe to use and environment-friendly. Channapatna crafts park , located at Channapatna, is India's first craft park. It is a crafts cluster of over 3000 traditional artisans engaged in the production of lacquerware.
