Mirzapur is a city in Uttar Pradesh, India. It was once the largest district in Uttar Pradesh before the division of Sonebhadra. At present the site is famous for Vindhyachal, a 'Shaktipeeth', for pilgrimage. The Vindhyavasini Devi temple located here is thronged by thousands of devotees during the 'Navratra' of 'Chaitra' (Mar/Apr) and 'Ashwin' (Sep/Oct) months to seek blessings of the Goddess. Other sacred places in the town are the Ashthbhuja temple, Sita Kund, Kali Khoh, Budeh Nath temple, Narad Ghat, Gerua Talab, Motiya Talab, Lal Bhairav and Kal Bhairav Temples, Ekdant Ganesh, Sapta Sarovar, Sakshi Gopal Temple, Goraksha Kund, Matsyendra Kund, Tarkeshwar Nath Temple, Kankali Devi Temple, Shivashiv Samooh Awadhoot Ashram and Bhairav Kund. The small city is also home to many waterfalls and natural spots. It is also known for its carpets and brassware industries.
The city of temples has its mention in many Hindu scriptures and mythology. It encircles the holy abode of Goddess Vindhyavasini, her temple is a center of pilgrimage for many Hindus. The glory of Lord Shiva has its stronghold at the Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple. This pilgrim hot-spot is renowned for beautiful environs and majestic waterfalls that attract of lot of tourists.
