The place is named after Goddess Renuka. She was the mother of Parshuram, the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to legend, husband of Renuka was killed by 'Sahasrjuna' who wanted to adduct her and to save herself from this plight she flung herself into water. She was restored to life by the gods and this lake is considered as her embodiment. The beautiful place flourishes with rich plant and animal life and many added attractions like boating and trekking are available here. Other attractions of this place are the Renuka Temple, a wildlife Safari and Jataun.
