Kanchipuram, or Kanchi, is a famous temple city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It served as the capital city of the Pallava Kingdom. It is now the Administrative headquarters of Kanchipuram district.
This ancient city of Kachipuram was once an important Buddhist centre where many prominent Buddhist monks lived. Some of them were Buddhaghosha 5th century, Sumati, Jotipala, Aniruddha, Acharya Dharmapala, Deepankara Tero, Ananda Tero, Saddhamma Jotipala/ And among the most famous Buddhists of ancient Kanchi are Dignaga, the nun Manimegalai and Bodhidharma. The Buddhist centres built during the time of the kings can still be seen.
