Established in 1957, the Assam State Zoo is the largest zoo in northeast India. It is located in heart of Guwahati city, capital of Assam. This zoo occupies an area of 1.75 sq. kms. of which approximately 110 hectares is natural forest. The zoo is a natural vista with landscape gardens, large enclosures and perennial water bodies. The key highlights of the zoo are animal exhibits, museum, reptile house, botanical garden, herbarium collection and natural forest.
