Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is an integral part of Bannerghatta National Park. The BBP as it stands today, was initiated in 1972. It emerged out as an independent establishment during the year 2002 and is located about 22 km south of Bengaluru city. It is one among the few places in the world where wilderness is preserved so close to a big city. In addition to the enclosures for different animals and birds, the park also has a Lion and Tiger Safari area, besides the Indian Sloth Bear Safari and herbivorous Safari enclosure. The Butterfly Park is another feather in the cap for Bannerghatta and is the first of its kind in India.
