Vada Pav is one of the most popular snacks in the country. In Nashik, it is paired with a special chutney that is an explosion of sweet and sour flavours. Vada pav comprises spiced boiled potatoes deep fried in gram batter and stuffed between two buns, served with green chillies marinated in salt and oil. A favourite among the locals of Nashik, it is best served with a hot cup of masala chai.

It is said that this simple yet delicious appetiser was created in the 1960s in Mumbai by a vendor, who came up with the idea of a filling and delicious item that he could make and sell quickly. As its popularity grew manifold over the years, vada pav was exported to other parts of Maharashtra, and later the whole country.
